LONDON (IQNA) – A mosque in Bristol, the UK, will hold an open day event in celebration of the Muslim festival of Eid al-Adha.

Traders and Community group are organizing the community Eid in Bristol

A community festival is taking place on St Marks Road in Easton on Sunday, July 2.

St Marks Road traders will be participating in the day’s event taking place shortly after Eid al-Adha, one of the main holidays celebrated in Islam.

Alongside children’s activities and street stalls, Easton Jamia Mosque will be open to the public for tours. The Mosque is using the day to celebrate the recent extension of its sister’s section which they say is now the biggest in Bristol.

The street event will take place from 2pm to 5pm and the organizers, St Mark’s Road Community Group, aim for the day to be ‘a celebration of unity, diversity, and the strengthening of community bonds.’ Alongside food and drink stalls from local businesses there will also be artwork and jewelry for sale.

A stage and PA system will be set up on the day with Arabic hymns known as ‘nasheeds’. Lord Lieutenant Peaches Golding will attend on the day alongside the High Sheriff Miss Sharon Foster.

Face Painting and Henna will be available, alongside a free children’s craft table. Specially prepared children’s sweets will also be given out on the day.

The organizers plan to decorate the potholes to highlight the lack of investment for the street since the row with the council over its proposed pedestrianisation led to a withdrawal of the funds allocated. Although the street has been granted CIL funding for infrastructure improvements, the community group has not heard any recent news as to when that work will commence.

Chair of Easton Jamia Mosque and Co-Chair of St Marks Road Community Group, Abdul Malik said: "We are pleased to showcase our new extension project, which the trustees have diligently worked on over the past year. The facilities we have developed, along with the remarkable interior design, exemplify our commitment to serving the community and nurturing the spiritual well-being of our Muslim brothers and sisters.

“We extend a warm welcome to everyone, irrespective of their background or faith, to join us at Eid Fest 2023 on Sunday, July 2nd, 2023, from 2pm to 5pm. Let us come together, celebrate our diversity, and forge stronger bonds of friendship and understanding within our community.”
